Get out while you can. At least that's what it feels like some days.

The market took a hot dump in the middle of the kiddie pool, and everyone's pretending it's not there. Well, maybe not everyone — but pretending sounds better and gets more clicks than admitting the water's brown.

I don't know about your business, but mine halted like a North Korean general caught off guard by the Supreme Leader. I haven't landed a new client since June, and it makes me feel like the fat kid who didn't get picked for a team at recess. (Yeah, I have experience.) Don't get me wrong — I've got prospects. I'm not that bad at my job. But going months without a new client is demoralizing. If I hadn't had a great Q2, I'd be panicking like a guy who just saw Chris Hansen walk towards him in a kitchen.

It's hard, though. Having no active clients messes with your head. You feel like a loser. Or at least I do. I think one of the hardest parts of this business is doing a mountain of work without an immediate reward for it. We work a lead for months, sometimes years, before it finally pays off — and there's nothing on the calendar telling you when.

I'm writing this partly to remind myself I'm not alone. Every agent feels this way on and off throughout their career. If someone tells you they don't, they've either got a coke addiction or they're lying to you — either way, keep some distance.

Here's the part I keep coming back to: as long as we keep doing the work of building relationships and actually connecting with people, business comes. It may be infrequent. It may be sporadic. But it comes.

So if you're in a dry spell right now — good, welcome to the club, there's coffee in the back. Keep making the calls. Keep posting videos. Keep being the agent people think of the second their cousin finally decides to sell. The dry spell ends. It always has before.
